We are planning a kayak trip from Bella Bella to Port Hardy this summer. Someone copied the appropriate parts of their charts for us on good quality bond paper. I was hoping to get them copied onto waterproof paper. We could have had all the pages laminated at a printer but the cost was prohibitive. I found a can of Thompson's WaterSeal, coated all the charts and hung them on a line to dry. Water will bead on the treated charts and run off. The charts will be kept in a chart case but just about everything in my chart case has gotten wet at some time. This is an inexpensive way to prevent copies of charts from turning into paper mache. Unlike lamination, this process doesn’t add much bulk, the paper can still be folded, and notes can be added afterward in pencil or pen.
